Luxury Fibres used in Wall's Clothing
  • VICUNA – Vicuna, the world’s most expensive cloth. Almost a synonym for “luxury”, this extraordinary fibre is sheared from the coat of the Andean vicuna, whose wool was so prized by the Incas that only royalty was permitted to wear it. Vicuna is the finest woollen yarn capable of being spun…much finer even than cashmere, and is both super-light and wonderfully warm. Its rarity is explained by the fact that each animal is sheared only every two years to produce only 200g of fibre. Every vicuna product from Wall comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
  • PERUVIAN PIMA COTTON – What is so special about Peruvian Pima cotton?
Peruvian Pima cotton’s strength and silkiness comes from its long filaments – staples – that are much finer and almost twice as long as those of ordinary cotton. When it’s mature enough for perfect spinning, dyeing and knitting, it must be handpicked three times a season. No toxic chemicals or defoliants are used on Peruvian Pima cotton crops, so it’s not only beautifully natural but also ecologically sound.
  • IRISH LINEN The matchless beauty of Irish linen.
Universally recognised as the finest in the world, Irish linen has a soft lustrous look that improves with every wash. Generations of Irish spinners and weavers have handed down their expertise over the centuries; they tell us that the soft Irish water is one of the secrets of the dyeing and finishing processes that give pure Irish linen its matchless quality.
  • CASHMERE Soft, silky cashmere is always a delight to wear.
Cashmere is sheared from goats living on the high, dry and extremely cold plateaux of the Tibetan and Mongolian deserts, which have developed a downy undercoat of fine soft wool beneath their coarse exterior coat. This is what gives cashmere its beautiful softness and warmth.
  • ALPACA Alpaca- another rich and beautiful fibre from the high mountains.
Distant cousins of llamas, alpaca live in the high Peruvian Andes. Unlike cashmere, their wool is hollow, like hairs, so when you wear an alpaca garment, your body adjusts in harmony with the temperature, indoors or out. Alpaca hair is graded according to its fineness with baby alpaca being the most sought after. Alpaca yarn is often combined with a man-made fibre to add flexibility and texture and to make it feel even silkier next to the skin.

    Alpaca pelts
Alpaca fur accessories come in various colours, usually the animal’s natural shades of snow white, dark chocolate or golden brown. Note: alpaca are not killed for their pelts. They are too valuable to be slaughtered for their skins when they have a 15-25 year lifespan during which they can go on producing this beautiful hair. All our alpaca fur items are made from animals that have died naturally.
  • SILK The romantic silk road.
Said to have been discovered by the Chinese emperor's young wife in about 2,700 BC, silk spinning became a key part of China's trade for centuries to come. The romantic sounding Silk Road, the world's longest trade route, opened in 139 BC . The silkworm is, in fact a caterpillar , an industrious little creature that can produce incredibly long and strong filaments, even as much as 300-900 metres long! Still one of the world's most loved and sought after fabrics, silk has a lovely natural lustre, dyes well , and is very strong in spite of its fineness. It can be woven or knitted.
